I want to record programmes from my Samsung F8000 using the built-in guide so it becomes a PVR.

Is it best to use a HDD or straight onto a USB memory stick?

Also, are there any makes or models that are best suited?

Thanks
Gary

It depends on how much space you need, I would have thought a good (branded) pen drive would be better then a hard drive (cheaper, less power usage, more reliable), but 500GB pen drives are expensive...

If you do decide you need the s[pace and want a HDD western digital have bought out a unit they claim is optimised for PVR use...home cinema choice reviewed it this month but a quick search didn't turn anything up, I'm sure you can find it.

An SSD is an option...larger than a pen drive and low power/fast etc.

I just used an old 80Gb drive that I replaced in a laptop with a bigger one. Put it in a cheap USB caddy and it works fine.

If you are recording HD you probably want >250Gb but they are very cheap these days.

It will do a speed test on any USB storage you plug in. Non of my USB drives were quick enough, but an old 5400rpm laptop IDE drive was so that got used instead!

I just noted on a Samsung forum that it states 5400rpm as a requirement. Think a HDD might be a more reliable solution.
