Live BBC/ITV over Internet
Discussion
Need a little help please.
Since getting rid of SKY a couple of years ago, I very rarely have the desire to watch live TV and usually rely on iPlayer and such like.
Now I want to watch the world cup on my TV, I've run into a few problems.
Basic set-up: Sony LCD (about 6yrs old) with digital tuner and a PS3.
I was hoping to watch ITV/BBC live through the PS3 apps over broadband, but neither seem to permit live streaming. Next step was to tune the TV but the aerial signal is not strong enough for ITV. I then plugged in my laptop to stream over the net but its old and cant keep up with the frame rate. I therefore watched last nights match on a lowly iPad.
I'm lucky to have fibre-to-home so have 100meg broadband connection and would preferably use an exclusively IP TV solution but everything I find like YouView requires an aerial for live stream. I want to avoid FreeSat too as living in an apartment, I have to pay extra just to be plugged into the communal dish.
The only solution I've found is to dust off my Raspberry Pi and install XMBC / TVcatchup app.
Will this work? Have I missed anything?
cheers

Google came up with this very quickly.

Live streaming of BBC does require a licence.

Thanks Flossy / Foliage, I did read that earlier. The problem being "the ITV Player Android app doesn't support live streaming at all." I tried TVCatchup on my Android phone but that didn't want to stream live either, although that maybe because I was on 4G rather than Wi-fi. Presumably that counts out the ChromeCast too.
I could presumably mirror from the iPad to an appleTV but dont want to spend 99gbp which would be probably better spent on a better laptop.
Looks like the solution will be the Raspberry Pi. I've also got PS3 Media Server installed on my PC - wonder if this can send a stream to the PS3 somehow?
The frustrating thing is that the technology is there, just poorly implemented.

I did look at the NowTV/Roku boxes but didn't believe they had live streaming.
I've since found this article which states "The online service will be providing coverage of the Rio 2014 World Cup with 34 matches"
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/digital-home/35243...
I think that may be my solution and for £10, can't grumble.
It does still seem odd that the PS3 ITV Player won't stream real time.
Anyway, cheers for your help all!
