New TV for around £600
Discussion
Panasonic is well regarded at the moment, they have the non-smart 400 (4000?) for £479 in Sainsburys, or the smart S500, both are 50inch and I would be very surprised if the image quality was worse than the Samsung, Smart stuff will be better on the Samsung though and you'd have to check for 3D if that's important to you.
Holy s
t that's cheap...

I wasn't even in the market for a new TV, but I'm thinking about picking one of those up.
Cheers fellas. THANKS VERY MUCH!!! Ha.
Edit to say, I've done it. Damn it.

I got a Philips 42" that cost me £650 from John Lewis last November. Has 3D capability and ambilighting. I think it's discontinued now. Looks great and picture is excellent. Downside is standard speakers are pathetic and the Freeview Menu is ridiculously slow (up to 5 seconds to wait for it to scroll down to the next channel on the menu!)
Got a Panasonic VIERA TXL42DT65B three weeks ago at a good price of £650 from Richer Sounds (seem all sold out now), great picture however my fav feature is the streaming wifi capability.
Installed Serviio on to my pc so can stream anything directly from pc to tv with no more additional hardware required.

I recently bought a Sony KDL 50W656 and really rate the performance; I think it was bang on £600. I couldn't find a physical store anywhere that stocked it so bought on the strength of online feedback and having owned a number of very reliable Sony products. If it makes your short list and you're anywhere near by all means pop in for a longer watch than you' get in a shop.
Took a little tweaking of colour profiles but I'm very pleased with the picture and it's a great looking set. Girlfriend hated the idea of a 50" TV thinking it would look like a monster but it it actually looks more compact and 100 times more 'elegant' than the older gen 40" it replaced.

I know it's a little bit more, but these look pretty decent:

Hmmm I'm tempted!

I just bought the Samsung UE46F6320 from Richer sounds for £550 and it's great. Smart, 3D, all you could ask for at that price. Great picture too - world cup football in HD is fantastic.
Have installed plex media server app on it and now stream from laptop, fully controlled from the tv remote! It also tlks to my Yamaha AV receiver and BT Youview box so now I only need 1 contol instead of 3! Wife is pleased about that :-)

Hi All,
Bit more than £600 but currently looking at these:

The Sony has 3D capability but I don't really care about that. I am leaning towards the Sony but have a Panasonic at the moment and wonder if people have an opinion on which is better? Is there a compelling reason to choose one over the other or are they very closely matched?
