New TV. Audio outputs help, please!!!!

Folks,

Yesterday, I purchased an LG 27MT93V (27" LED TV). The picture and general features on it are excellent. However, I am stumped how to get audio out to my Samsung home cinema.

The TV has the following inputs / outputs:

RF In
HDMI
Composite
Component Video
USB
Headphone Out
Audio Inputs
LAN
PC Audio In

The home theatre has the following inputs / outputs:

HDMI
Optical (how I connected it to my previous TV)
AUX

I have tried connecting the home theatre using HDMI and it work perfectly when playing a DVD, with a clear picture and great sound from the theatre speakers. However, when I'm watching normal TV through our BT Vision box connected to HDMI 1, or using the PS3 connected through the SCART, I can only get sound from the TV speakers.

I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to all of this, so can anyone advise how I can get the sound output from the TV to always go through the home theatre regardless of whether I'm watching TV through HDMI 1, PS3 through HDMI 2, DVD from the home theatre or Smart content from the TV?

Usually you connect the source(s) to the home theatre and then the home theatre to the TV. This way all sources should have sound through the HT system.

The home theatre only has 1 x HDMI port, so would I have to connect either the source via AUX, or connect from the home theatre to the TV via AUX?

Use the TV optical out to feed into your cinema system.

This will play all sound that is normally coming out the TV speakers through your speaker system.

The TV doesn't have optical out - that's my problem. Having spoken with LG Technical Support, I believe the only way to do it is use HDMI ARC (which means I have to buy a new HT system )

You need a new HT system.

You can use the optical from the source (bt box, dvd) and even have an optical switch to change the inputs, but really you just need a tv with optical out or a home theatre system with HDMI in.

Can you return the TV and change it for another?
