Options for a "mini PVR" for bedroom TV?

I would like to put a small tv into the bedroom, with some form of recording device. I don't want lots of seperates so is there such a thing as a "mini" PVR running with USB or SD storage that could sit tucked behind the tv (had heard someone trying to do this with a Raspberry Pi) or in another unobtrusive spot?

Even better, though I'm not too familiar with recent developmentsis, there a new way of doing this where some TVs may offer built-in or plug-in USB PVR functionality?

Some TV's such as Toshiba's will record if a USB stick is inserted into the USB slot. Also a few STB's have the same facility.

Our Samsung will do this, although it's a little bit picky about what drives it'll take. The cheapy USB sticks I've tried won't work but it accepts an old laptop drive without any problems.
