AV Amp - HDMI & video phono out
Discussion
Hi all.
I have a Yamaha RXV465 AV amp and I need to use the HDMI output for the projector and the video out for the TV.
all the sources are HDMI in but is there anyway of outputting both or do i need an analogue input for the tv? i cant seem to get it to out put to the TV although until recently i thought it was doing this...

You will stuggle with this as HDMI has a load of copy protection built in to it (HDCP) which means you can't have something outputting HDMI and analogue video at the same time.
There are two ways to sort this - one is to try to find an AVR with dual outputs. Denon do them but only one will be live at once (and you'll have to manually change between).
The second way is to buy a 1:2 HDMI splitter and run HDMI to both displays.
Hope that helps.

Thanks mate, that's a shame. I only need one or the other to operate at one time, not both at the same time but I guess I can't have this. It's strange as I am sure it worked like this previously. There are two ways to sort this - one is to try to find an AVR with dual outputs. used to have a Yamaha amp with dual HDMI outputs but had to flog it so will have to get saving I reckon!
It sounds to be that you are expecting the receiver to downconvert the HDMI signal, and output it through an analogue output which it won't do - that Yamaha won't up convert analogue to output via HDMI either (upconverting).
To get anywhere near what you want to achieve, both the analogue and digital inputs of the source would have to be connected, and be able to be used concurrently. The receiver would also have to be able to pass both and switch between, but you may end up with some lag between sources.
Unless there is some restriction on the TV (no HDMI for instance), then using a HDMI splitter as suggested would be the way to go, and does allow use of either output independently.
