I've got loads of intermittent fine black lines sowing vertically on the screen, right across the whole screen.

The TV is a Sony Bravia 55" and a Sky HD box. Both are about 6 years old.

The lines appear both on live viewing and recordings from the Sky box.

I know it's a long shot, but which is likely to be causing the problem do you think?

I don't have a CD player but can borrow one in a couple of days to test the screen.

It could be the screen, the input being used by the Sky box, the cable the Sky box is using or the box itself.

If the lines are interfering with the tv menus I would think its more likely to be the tv itself. If the lines dont show up on the tv menus but mess about with the Sky box menus then it more points to the connection to the sky box or the box itself.

You could try moving the lead connecting the tv to the sky box to another socket and try another lead aswell.

Tied unplugging everything and using a different HDMI port but no change.

The lines don't appear on the tv menu pop ups though, so does this suggest it's the Sky box?

The tv is not connected to an aerial so I can't view a picture that way to compare.

It would be worth trying a different HDMI cable IMO.

Bad news, it's the TV on the blink.

Good news, I now have the excuse to buy a 65" tv.

Now, if Richer Sounds can be arsed to actually answer the telephone they can have my business. What's with the noon opening time too, what a pain ...

Result then, in a kind of roundabout way.

Now admit to tipping your drink over the back of it to have an excuse to upgrade! smile
