Anybody do B&O ?
I've recently bought a pair of Beolab 3s and am in the process of running them in. After spending years with hefty 3 way floor standers It's clear that my next move will be a subwoofer.
Bang and Olufsen have three subs to choose from, ( actually 4 but for now 3.
) the discontinued but still available Beolab 2, the tulip shaped Beolab 11 and the new all singing all dancing Beolab 19
My conumdrum is... from where will I get the bass I need ?
The Beolab 2, an 850 watt stalwart is apparently soggy sounding and only suited to surround sound explosions (which it does very well) but not really hi-fidelity.
The Beolab 11 uses 2 apposed 6 inch drivers which, to be frank, seem a bit small for woofering
And then there's the brand new Beolab 19 which I thought was going to be the answer to my prayers. Deep, fast and powerful but it doesn't have the high pass circuitry to take the base away from the Beolab 3s, it only does that if it's plugged into a B&O TV.. !
My options seem to be either a wooly old Beolab 2 or a subwoofer that looks like a flower and may have been designed to add bass to a laptop.
Waddle I do.
Anybody using Beolab subwoofering ? Do you have a BL 2, are you pleased with it ?
Anybody gone down the floral route, is Beolab 11 in fact a lyrical deep base wonder that transformed your Beolab 3s forever ?

While I can appreciate B&O I don't see why you necessarily have to stick with them for a sub. If you want a sub good with music I'd be looking at B&W or BK personally. Possibly a PV1 or PV1D.
Yes, you could use a B&W sub. It would be a good match since the amps in it are designed and built by B&O through their subsidery ICEpowerI like LOVE the PV1D and haven't even heard it yet. The reports are all good but the connectivity concerns me. The good thing about the BL 2 and 11 is that you just plug them in line and all the thinking is taken care for you. With the PVD1 I'm thinking, not so straight forward.
I'll call B&W today and see what they say.
Cheers.

Do you use B&O kit to run your speakers? I believe its just a case of using a Din to RCA adapter wired correctly to feed a non B&O sub.

What I would say is it depends if the sub will be visible and how important aesthetics are to you. Personally I think a BK XLS400 will be considerably cheaper and outperform the B&W but that doesn't make the B&W a bad sub, in fact far from it, they're very good especially for music.
Being a B&O owner I'd guess the aesthetics are quite important but I do believe you can get more performance by sacrificing aesthetics slightly.

No doubt about it. If I was bothered only by performance, I wouldn't be in this situation to start with.
I've gone and bought these BL3s for multifarious reasons, one being interior decor considerations. (kill me now}
At present I've got them in an as stripped back system as is possible. 2 BL3s being fed itunes from an airport express through an Almando powerlink switch. The lack of 'boxes' is really quite liberating and if only the Beolab 19 lived up to expectations I'd be home and dry. For now.
I haven't called B&W yet because I think it's pretty obvious I'm not going to integrate a PV1D seamlessly into this set up. I'm thinking I'm going to have to introduce a pre amp.
