I think I'm probably the only person left with a CRT TV! As it weighs 100Kg & I've had enough of lugging it around as we renovate it's time to upgrade. Had a quick look in Curry's last night & like the look of the Sony X8505:-

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-blu-ray/televi...

Salesman had some demo on a USB stick which showed fast scrolling, it was really bad! However it seems to be a Samsung demo, it was also bad in the LG TV & wouldn't work at all in the Panasonic. Of course it was perfect in the Samsung! They really pushed Samsung. To my eyes the Sony looked the most natural (it was showing football from the world cup & looked great). Any thoughts & recommendations would be great. I haven't got the funds right now to buy top end so £1500 is really the very top limit & a screen size of between 55" & 60" would be ideal.

Thanks smile

Go to Richer Sounds. You will get far better warranties and information from them.

Maybe some will disagree but i prefer to go to people who know what they are talking about when spending money like that.

Samsung are producing some extremely good models at the moment though, for not a huge amount of money. Very good design and very good technology.

I'd be pretty thorough if buying a smart TV.... have been "experiencing" a samsung owned by a customer of mine which is horrible, most on demand functions are painfully and I mean wretchedly slow (compared to my 5 year old sky HD box) and there's sound faults with iplayer (which, as it's a "3rd party app", no-one seems responsible for...)

Like said my experiences may be anecdotal but I'd be pretty thorough in the showroom.

That was one thing I noticed, the LG & Samsung seemed really slow on the UI, the Sony was instant.

Not in your price bracket, but I just bought a poverty spec Sony 40" smart tv and couldn't be happier. Picture us excellent, sound pretty good and apps plentiful. The only minor gripe is amazon video and netflix can take a little longer than I'd like to start, but once running they're great.
It is BRAVIA KDL40W605 B

i went out a year ago to buy a panasonic led / lcd non smart non 3d tv as it was meant to have the best picture at 46"

after watching the same demo on a number of tv's i am now the proud owner of a 51" samsung plasma with smart and 3d, why because i watch a lot of football and the samsung was by far the best picture for sport, btcc is great on it as well, and it was no more than the panasonic.

the smart i do use, it's not screamingly fast but it's ok, i can stick a media pc on if i want super fast.

3d? it came with it and the glasses are still in the boxes in the drawer.

i've turned into a bit of a samsung fanboy now, we have 2 other monitors from them and a fridge freezer as well smile

Lots of threads on this in the Home Cinema and HiFi. Worth a search.

I've had a 55" Samsung for about 7 months now. It's connected via Ethernet to my router. Picture is great and all the smart features are quick and work fine.

I bought an LG 42in WebOS tv a couple of months ago and it is great. I use Netflix, iPlayer, Plex and it is great for all those services. £1500 should get you a 55in UHD version of the TV.

Be aware that in the shop they usually have display mode switched on, which whacks up the saturation, increases contrast and generally winds all the settings up to 11. It looks awful.

I have a 22in 1080 Samsung TV which looks so much better when its properly set up. The Smart functions are quite zippy to be honest. Not tried streaming video off USB, but BBC iPlayer looks sweet.

Samsung owner here, generally a big fan, streaming youtube, iplayer etc wirelessly with no hitches whatsoever.

Only negative is a bug in the sound setting where it constantly reverts to PCM stereo, where I want it to retain the DTS3/2.1 option, so every time I go to use it, it needs to be changed.

I got them to switch all the settings to natural & cinema so they all looked more natural. The Sony looked the most natural out of all of them. I guess I really need a shop that can feed the exact same media to them side by side!
