I may have asked this question previously but can't find my old post and even if I did, I never got any recommendations.

Anyway, I'm after a 5.1 system for my son that he can plug his DVD player, XBOX and media centre etc into.

A few months ago Richer Sounds had (what I now realise was) a cracking offer on a Yamaha amp and speakers (including sub), reduced from £250 to £150. I should've bought it then but didn't. I can't find anything near to £150 now and they don't have any offers on that are that good.

Can anyone recommend or has seen any similar offers anywhere else at the moment? The only things around that price now seem to be the DVD/amp combos and they don't have extra inputs for his other boxes.

Something like the Panasonic SC-BTT500 would do the job, might have a extra Blu-ray player that you wouldn't need but it comes with everything you need in the box and 2 HDMI inputs.

Panasonic have been making twin HDMI input all in ones for a while now, so if you look around you should be able to pick up a previous generation model (they produce a new model about every 3 months it seems, so "previous generation" really isn't that old) for about £200.

But Richer Sounds are currently doing a Yamaha AV receiver for £150 in some stores: http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/y...

If his tv is a Samsung, LG or Sony (IIRC) he may get away with a one-input system, as you can take an output from the headphone socket. Then set the volume about halfway on the surround sound and use the tv remote to turn it up and down

Try it with headphones first, as some TVs (noticeably Panasonic) have a seperate menu driven headphone volume control, which is a pain in the arse

Or get one with a fibre optic input (again assuming tv has one)

Thanks both, I'll take a look at those. I'm sure that Yamaha amp was the one Richer Sounds were doing with a speaker package for £150 a few months ago, but a mate tells me it was £200. Anyway, I'll have a look, thanks.

Yes it's a Sony tv he's got so I could try the headphone thing, though that seems a bit Heath Robinson, but I guess at £150 beggars can't be choosers hehe

Agreed optical is best option if no ARC Hdmi connections
