I have a NAS which is wired to the Denon receiver via my router.

I ripped my CDs using Assunder on my desktop and copied them to the NAS. (Ubuntu)

If I select network from the Denon, it can see the tracks, but won't play them and comes up with 'File Format Error'. Videos and pictures are fine.

If I copy the track from the NAS to a stick, then plug the stick into the Denon it plays fine!

This used to work, but I had a NAS failure and lost all my music, so I'm re-ripping it all. The only change is that my NAS is now a WD My Cloud instead of a Buffalo.

Make sure the NAS isn't transcoding your files into to a format not supported by your receiver.

Best thing I ever did was dump the WD my 'whatever' and move to Synology - worth thinking about.
