Hello All,

After six years of very loyal service it's now time to replace my Toshiba 32' LCD TV. Firstly, it'll be nice to have something less clunky in appearance, but now I'm deliberating whether to opt for one of the new 4k sets.

I realise that there's a distinct (or completely non-existent!) lack of 4K content at the moment, but as the plan would be to keep this one for about 5 years, I'm reluctant to buy one which doesn't feature 4k capabilities.

I've been researching and the LG 42UB820V seems to tick the boxes, in terms of performance and looks. It also appears to have the neccessary features including HDMI 2.0 and HEVC H.265. It's available from a number of shops for around £530.

What are your thoughts? Size wise, I don't want to go bigger than 42' and as I'm not a gamer it doesn't need to be suited to that type of use.

Thanks in advance.

Are you looking at screen size vs picture definition, how important is the sounds, any interest in a sounder or sound base and what else is the screen connected too, re a blu ray, skybox, amp, etc. Any thoughts on budget?

Well that was a short lived conundrum... I popped to a local television / electrical shop at lunchtime and they had the LG with an incorrect ticket on at £399. A hasty card payment later and it was sorted.

Seems a good buy at that money.

So how close will you be sitting to your new toy to get any benefit of the high resolution?
