Saving stuff from V+ box

Just in the process of upgrading from Virgin V+ to Tivo and have realised there's no way to transfer saved stuff from one to the other (mainly music programmes). Would like to keep these programmes somewhere if possible.

V+ does have Scart and a record to DVD function.

Has anyone used this and any recommendations for something to use as the recorder? Would probably be happier using HDD than DVD if anything suitable exists. Cheap is good - within reason, still want it to be watchable - as this would be its only purpose.
