Wedding Disco Lighting
Discussion
Hi chaps, hopefully this is the best place to get some input on this!
We are getting married next september in a French chateau, a reasonably relaxed affair, probably about 90 guests, spending a fair amount of time outdoors with a "nice" BBQ style meal. Now we have got almost all of the organisation done already, virtually everything is booked and we have managed to do it all on really quite a small budget, probably a lot less than most people can manage.
The one thing we don't have sorted yet is music. Ideally we would like a band if money was no object, but the local bands we have listened to were not great and still quite expensive. The UK based bands and singers were better but quite expensive (£1.7k) and that is even before the costs of getting them out there and all have said they would perform for 2 hours, 3 hours at a push. I'm not a huge fan of discos and if it was just a case of lining up a playlist and letting it run, well, I can do that myself.
Which brings me onto the possible idea of using a series of bluetooth speakers, probably 3-4 Sonos 5s to provide the music in a barn/outdoor area. We already have Sonos at home via a soundbar and I like the way it works, the benefit of doing this is that we would have something useful left over for the house at the end of it.
My concerns are:
1. Are the speakers capable of producing sound that is good enough? (It will probably mainly be background music and a few drunk girls having a dance at some point)
2. Are the resilient/redundant enough to not need looking after? I think they probably are with careful planning.
3. If it possible to get some sort of disco light system that you can integrate with them easily?
This is the kind of space they will be used in:

Sonos is not bluetooth, it uses wireless either its own or a local wifi.
I dont think they will have enough "bang" for a room that size and unless you are using a sub there will be very little bass.
For the cost of one play5 richer sounds would be able to give you an amp/dock and speakers with a lot more clout.
As for lights i think you can get sound driven ones

have a look to see if there are any PA hire company's in the area of the venue. Should be able hire something fairly decent for not too much. they'll be able to advise based on the room size/capacity.
I hire a PA when running sports events & discos in an old theatre. Costs between £100 and £200 for the PA to cover a 1000m² venue with 300 people

You could buy a set of PA speakers and a mixer and sell them on after quite easily. Are you driving down there.
I'm not sure I'd go the wireless route.
For lighting, some par cans shot up the wall will work wonders:

Four would be plenty I would think. They're helluva bright. Make sure to get ones which don't NEED a DMX controller.
Did this at our wedding, worked great. Borrowed a friends kit as it happens.

For a venue like that I would suggest some large PA speakers as mentioned above. The high ceiling and stone will take out a lot of bass so I would imagine you would want something around the 1000w mark power wise.
As for lighting you can get LED up lighters to go around the room. They can link up to each other and be set to either go with sound or rotate on their own accord.
You could also get a scatter laser that rotates small green and red dots around the room, which has a nice effect but it might annoy people who are sitting down if it gets in their faces too much.

Hi mate. Sorry if it's not helpful or breaks any forum rules; If you decide to go down the band route, whilst based in the UK, I can help.
