Thinking about getting 4k TV

I've had my Panasonic plasma TV (46") for over 5 years now, and I'm thinking about replacing it with a 4k Samsung 55" curved telly. I'm looking at the 7200 model. No interest in 3D.
A couple of questions:
Will it actually be an upgrade when watching HD material (broadcast and BR rips streamed via Dune media player)?
Is it possible to stream 4k material via Ethernet from my server directly to the TV using its smart functions?
