I have a samsung home surround sound set up its HT BD1252 5.1CH Blu-ray

So plays DVDs no issues.

Not got many Blu ray discs, but last 2 I have tried to play its frozen half way through film, started sticking then frozen completely. So does it read Blu ray discs with a different reader? No damage on discs, in fact one was new.

Is this something that can be mended?

If not do I have to buy a complete system again or can you just get the player and kep existing speakers?

A very quick Google suggests there are 2 lasers in a Blu ray player, one for DVD and another for Blu Ray.

Blu-ray is a blue laser, DVD uses a red laser. Different wavelengths.

This is why I never buy all-in-one systems because you can't just replace the DVD/BR player in it.

Ok, so two lazers, is it possible to repair it?

If not can you buy the unit on its own or do you have to replace the lot?

Take it back to the dealer and ask them. I have no idea. It maybe replaceable but who knows.

I fixed a similar problem on my Nephews PS3, that also would still read DVDs but not BR or games.
The much shorter wavelength does make the Blue laser much more susceptible to dirt and dust I think, all o did was dismantle the PS3 and gave the lens a good clean with some alcohol. That was probably 2-3 years ago and it's been fine ever since.
