Replacement for Panasonic ST60 plasma?
Discussion
So, my kids smashed the panel on my 50" Panasonic ST60 plasma!
I'm waiting for a quote to see if its worth repairing or if the content insurance will want to just get a replacement.
My problem is that I am a big fan of Plasma over LCD and bought it on that basis, although the audio/picture sync issues were very annoying!
So, for the £800 budget, what else should I be looking at? Needs to be 50" minimum. I've had Panasonic plasma screens for so long I don't really know what else to look at.
Thanks!

i was going to buy a Panasonic just over a year ago, i even knew which one i wanted, how much etc, then i say the picture on a Samsung 51" plasma in the shop and it was great, it's now sitting in my living room.
become a bit of a Samsung fan boy now as we've also bought a fridge freezer from them and a couple of other bits, all well made.
i would definitely suggest you give them a gander.

Sadly no plasmas around from Panasonic and I am not sure if Samsung / LG are still producing them in numbers. the technology and costs has made development impossible. LED and OLED UHD are the new way forward. Regarding what sets to buy read a few magazines and see what friends have. Don't go out nd just look at those in shops which are on display mode which is way too bright for home use.

Ask for the remote and ask if its ok to play with settings. I am sort of dreading our Panasonic plasma dying. Last time I looked at the LEDs I was disappointed with motion and blacks/dark areas
Might be an idea to get some hd footage of what you watch on to a memory stick and aske for a demo?
If I was buying a new TV today I would look closely at the new 4K LED tv's coming out. As content grows these will fall in price especially if looking at 50 inches or more, the picture when set up correctly is very good, with deep blacks and strong definition. They are thin so easily hung on a wall and offer some amazing smart software. Have a look at the Philips LED's, Samsung, Panasonic and Sony. However two of these may soon licence out their manufacturing to Chinese companies.

The samsung 55h6400 seems to get good reviews, thoughts?
I bought it a couple of weeks ago. Just over £700 from Richer Sounds with a 5 year guarantee. I used the calibration settings from AV Forums and I'm happy with it. So... I'm down to the Panasonic 55AS740B or the Samsung 55H6400.
Speaking to a couple of RS stores, they both suggest the Panasonic. But all online reviews seem to suggest the Samsung as the better TV?
Do you want picture quality, smart features or ease of use and peace of mind? Most screens today with some time and a THX disc can be improved substantially so that the final image is just what you want not what the manufacturer percieves you want. HDMI slots are useful and I am guessing a sound bar, sound base or surround sound is being used for audio reproduction.

Its all about the best picture I can get for my price point. Sound is dealt with through use of a play bar.
Smart features are not important.
I guess the best thing is to put them side by side in a RS store. Price, smart features and the What Hifi/AV Forums reviews were the factors that I used when deciding.
But, this TV isn't a long term keeper; I'm waiting until 4K becomes more established before getting one of those in a year or two.
