8 Series Samsung LCD screen prblem

The folks have one of these (le40a856s1) and its been fine up until now but is now displaying a few lines vertically down the screen, crappy phone picture but you get the idea
Does it on freeview and hdmi inputs.
Is it fecked ? I guess if its the panel itself the thing is scrap, but could it be something else and (possibly) a cheap repair ?
Alternatively whats a good replacement ? no special requirements really, a couple of hdmi inputs and freeview tuner will do them fine.
