As above,

I need a new one after ours went on the blink. I have had it five years and its been excellent and was only £80 then and is now £53 here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Supertooth-Portable-Blueto...

I wanted something different but cannot find anything under £100 that gives 28 watts of sound, the sound is excellent. All the newer ones seem less powerful and don't have much bass.

Do I just stick with what I know and replace it with the same model? Battery has died and also it struggles to pair now but after 5 years I have no complaints for that price.

Any others come close for the money? I have looked at jawbone, miniboom etc but all say not bassy enough etc.

I can recommend the Harmon Kardon onyx from Amazon
A little over budget at £135 but well worth it for the sound and great bass..

Curry/PC World were selling the JBL Flip 2 for only £40 last week.

Great little speaker for that kind of cash.

both are good speakers but can you get better sound than the 28watts on the link I mention for £53?

I don't know how it compares to the one you had but I had a recommendation from a mate for Audio Dynamix portable speakers from Amazon http://adx.uk.com/

I've not actually bought anything yet but I've come close to buying a Pulse or Atom a few times.

Ignore wattage. Buy BOSE Soundlink mini. Fantastic piece of kit - go and have a listen in Dixons/wherever and you'll buy it. Probably around £120 but well worth the extra.

+1

I just stayed in a hotel that had one in the room, I was all like "what's this overpriced Bose trash?". Switched it on - holy sheet.

I have a Sony SRS-X3, which according to reviews goes toe-to-toe with the Bose (which I have only briefly heard, and would agree).

I paid £85, which I thought was a bargain from the list price of £99.

Dabs is now selling them for £55...

The Bose Soundlink mini is a very good choice.

Another vote for the Bose - amazing little thing.

And I'm certainly not a Bose fanboi.

Yet another for the Bose. It is so portable that it is great for travels, BBQs etc.

The Bose is a good little speaker. The JBL isn't far behind though. The Bose has more bass, but I found the JBL could go a bit louder.

It's an absolute bargain at £39.

Ultimate Ears Boom - my wife uses one for backing tracks while teaching a class full of kids playing instruments.

Thanks all. I have gone for this one in the end.

The normal model gets a fantastic write up and reviews on Amazon and the new extra-base model doesn't come out till next week so at £60 seems like a bargain will let you know if it's as good as it sounds

I second the JBL. Served me well on holiday recently and it withstood a lot of my banging Westlife tunes. Bose is also quality but I wouldn't say it's worth 3 times more than the JBL.

The Flip 2 is brilliant for its size and price (mine is playing on my desk as I write this) but I bought it for solo trips and relatively low-volume use in hotel rooms. I took it on holiday last summer and found it struggled a bit to make itself in the bigger space of a rented house. It loses its composure when competing with kitchen noises.

I rejected the Soundlink Mini for my purposes because it was too big for my travel kit and requires its own charger instead of a USB. But those things don't matter if it's staying at home, and it's a bigger, more capable speaker than the Flip 2. Like others here, I'm a Bose-sceptic but I was pleasantly surprised by the Mini.

One to avoid is anything from the Pure Jongo system. It's trying to be Sonos on the cheap - and it claims to be able to synchronise a Bluetooth input to one with any other Jongo on the network. But it uses the ordinary house wifi for connection and has none of the solidity of the independent Sonos mesh. The idea is appealing but it's woefully under-developed.

Another vote for a minirig!

Don't be fooled into thinking more watts = better. It doesnt. It's not even a measure of loudness, just power. On top of that, it's completely meaningless as a power measurement, as companies pretty much just slap a made up number on, rather than any genuine power rating.

Anyone tried the ue boom mini? Some reviews rate it better then the bose and it's a fair bit cheaper? Tempted by one for occasional use out in the garden.
