Hi Guys

Planning a home cinema setup and wondering what the best option is for having the subwoofer on the other side of the room to the amp?

I don't want to have to pin a cable along the skirting board/around door frames so I thought about maybe lifting the carpet and running the cable under? The wife isn't keen on that though and it's a bit of a faff.

Are there kits you can get that will make the subwoofer effectively wireless? I found a few things on Amazon that looked like they might do the job but don't want to buy something on a whim and get it wrong!

The sub is a Q Acoustics 3070s

Thanks

I've used decorative trunking from B&Q for my surrounds placed just above the skirting. It's self adhesive and you really don't notice it when it's in place.

This shows large trunking but you can get a much smaller "mini" version that will take speaker wires.

Looks nice and tidy but I have to go a long way, round door frames and all. Don't really want to have to run cables that far and then cover them up.

Took this just now as mine also goes over a door frame:

Thanks for that.

Does anyone have any experience with the wireless receiver/transmitter type setup with a sub?

Looks great, but £155 eek

Over half the cost of the sub! Is there any cheaper variant that will do a similar job?

What about this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AMDV6IU

For my tuppence, I'd be very reluctant to go down this route - lifting the carpet isn't that much of a faff as you could probably run the wire along the gripper rods.

I have a wireless subwoofer in one of our rooms (part of the Orbitsound M12 kit), and initially wasn't impressed with the performance when it was on the other side of the room (around 4 or 5 metres away from TV). Phasing was frequently out, and it would drop out completely at times. It's now about 1 metre away from the TV and works fine.

YMMV. smile

Just lift the carpet, it will take 15 minutes tops and you would never know it is there.

Just lift the carpet, run cable along edge and put carpet back again. It'll take less than half an hour, and the only tools you'll need are a butter knife and maybe a stanley knife...

You cannot send an amplified signal wirelessly, you have to run a cable.

Subwoofers are normally powered by an internal amps so that wouldn't be an issue.

Subs are broadly non-directional. Just leave it by/nearer the amp? Have you tried it there?

It's more to do with the aesthetics. It's a big bugger and I was hoping to hide it away behind a sofa rather than it being in my field of view when I look at the TV. But it's no biggie...

Ha, the sub is brand new (as is the rest of the kit!!) It just looks so much bigger than I thought it would haha.

It's not bad looking per se, I just like a nice uncluttered view! smile
