Hoping for some help into this double homicide as I'm at a bit of a loss as to what has happened.

Having returned from 2 weeks holiday both the TV (Sony KDL40HX803) and the freeview box (Humax HDR-FOX T2) are stone cold dead.
No power lights, no signs of life.... dead.

They were both plugged into the same plug socket and have tried other things in that plug socket and they work fine. No electrical trip switches have been tripped on the main fuse box. I have replaced the fuses also and this has made no difference.

They may have been left on standby when away as I did not come from home when we set off on holiday.

There has been building work going on in the house next door including replastering and rewiring after a fire. If you remove the plasterboard on our side of the wall you see the supporting beams, some insulation and the back of their plasterboard so there is a chance that the works may interfered with our electrics but I would have thought this would have tripped the fuse box, blown a fuse or damaged the plug socket.

All the plug sockets including those around it and the electrical equipment plugged into them are fine apart from the one the TV and HDR were plugged into the same socket which as mentioned still works.

I think both are around 5 years old... I know they had a 5 year warranty but this as if someone has triggered a kill switch as soon as they are out of warranty!?!

Any help or suggestions much appreciated!

Might be a lightning strike as there have been a few storms over the last 2 weeks (don't know where you live or where you've been away so you might not be aware). If the socket works then you've already ruled out that possibility, but on a basic level check the fuses in the TV and Freeview box just incase, but if it was a surge or lightening then I don't think you have much luck under warranty even if it was still within date.

Thanks. I have changed both fuses and no joy. The plug sockets either side of it were fine, they had the bluray home cinema system and printer plugged into them. Neither were affected so I'm not sure if lightning would have only affected one socket, not tripping the fuse box and leaving the socket intact.. but then just don't know. Maybe that is what has happened???

Never mind, it's the end result that matters and you've got a working TV and Freeview again. I know some would view it as an excuse to upgrade the TV, but if you've just come back off holiday might not be the best time. smile
