I'm sorting out a discreet TV install at the moment and would like some advice on remote controls.

I'm fitting alcove shelving both sides of my fire and I've spaced the 5 shelves so that I can remove the second one up on the left and wall mount the TV there. I've done the left hand set of shelves, have got the TV mounted and I'm onto tidying things up now.

My original plan was to leave the BT vision box and DVD player on the bottom shelf. However, neither needs to be visible, except for using the remote control.

Is there anyway to hide the boxes and still have them pick up the signal? Fibre optics or a mirror perhaps?

That looks fun, but I could buy a lot more interesting things for £150! Way too much money!

How about this:

(From the "people who viewed this item laughed at the price and went on to view..." of the other page) smile

I've used this in the past - http://www.keene.co.uk/keene-ir-distribution-amp-k...

Works really well (in the last house, we had the tv wall mounted with the IR repeater and the dvd player hidden in the walk in wardrobe)

As above but I've got this one: http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/harmony-ulti...

Can be had for quite a bit less than the RRP if you shop around.

I might just dismantle the boxes, remove the IR receiver, put it on a longer wire and put it in a suitable spot.

The cheap way is to use the Neet boxes, I always keep a couple spare on the van just incase.

The better way is to use the Harmony Ultimate that achieves two things. Control of hidden and none hidden devices and everything held and processed by a single remote. I use these on my cheaper cinema installs and programmed properly they work really well.
