I have an opportunity to upgrade my CD player component around the £1k mark & have been offered a K2 Roksan CD player. Does anyone have any experience to share with this unit in terms of reliability and sound quality?

I am aware the K3 has recently been released, however, the K2 unit appears to have won multiple awards previously so should still be a worthy contender to upgrade from an Arcam CD72T I have currently.

It would be driven by a pair of Arcam amps (Pre & Power) @50w each into 8ohm & Ruark Tallisman II floor standing speakers FWIW.

I have a similar system - Roksan Caspian M2 (also upgraded from Arcam) into Arcam pre/power and then B&W CD4 floor standing speakers

The Roksan is better in every way than the Arcam it replaced and hasn't given any trouble in the 3 years I've had it. The whole thing is a bit ordinary at low volume but really "flies" when loud. I think the B&W need quite a bit of power to get going. Your Ruark may be better...

Generally I'd recommend Roksan as I had a ROK DP1/DA1 previously.

How much for? You can get it new for £500(assuming it's the Kandy K2).

If you want to spend a bit less, the Marantz CD6005 seems to get pretty good reviews.

I could secure a K2 for £340.00 which considering they were £1k recently and now £500 in light of the K3 release seems like a good bargain to upgrade the Arcam which was a £600 player when new, especially as I've also upgraded my turntable this month.....

Interestingly I spoke to a specialist last weekend who only really sells Linn, Roksan & Naim components and having reviewed the K3 recently, stated while it was very good it didn't offer much of a sonic upgrade over the K2 which reflects the state of the technology these days in terms of progression in DAC technology, more of a style & marketing upgrade than one of a step up in sonic performance.

Ref the Speakers - the Ruarks work really well at low to mid volumes and consequently are the cream in my system which I don't plan to upgrade despite their age, if anything the Arcam amps will be the next to upgrade but I need to hear something quite convincing first.
