Cello 42" 4K TV for £400....
Discussion
Well, when perusing the crappy catalogue my Fiancée gets I saw one of these "beauties" nestling in the pages. I thought to myself "who's going to be a sucker enough to buy one of those?" when my Fiancée pipes up "I've got a code for £100 off my storecard balance if I spend £400" and thats when the problems began!
She suggested a TV on buy now pay later as our 32" 720p number was decidedly past it's best, I have wanted a bigger 1080p set for a while now and agreed that this was a good idea. I just couldn't shake the idea of a 4K set for just £400!
We are some of those "no TV licence people" who only watch Netflix and Downloads so don't have the usual crap quality SD sources like you get with a huge virgin package, some decent quality HD streams but a lot of poor bandwidth SD feeds as well! (I'm sure SKY is the same I've never had it)
We had a laptop feeding a denon av receiver going to our TV I changed this soon after delivery of my spanking new Cello 42" 4K TV!!!
OK I weakened and decided that if the worst comes to the worst I can put it in the man cave upstairs and get a proper set later on, so I went for it, it's here, and this is my review!!
We've been using the TV for a few days now and I have made some drastic changes in my AV system the very day after delivery, I shall explain. I had originally had my laptop feeding the denon and then into 720p TV land, I found this setup to be quite lacking when it came to higher resolution downloads/streams, when confronted with a 1080p capable set (which of course the Cello is) it tried to stream youtube at 1080 and couldn't, the sound would continue but the picture would freeze and then play a few seconds every several seconds of motionless frustration!! So I decided to re-purpose an old PC that I had been running a minecraft server on, I picked up a 5450 gpu for £12 and slapped that in the back of it, plugging it into the Denon with trepidation!
It worked after some downloading of drivers and an update to win10 and now works fantastically with youtube, high file size movies and netflix in HD (haven't upgraded to the 4K netflix as this TV doesn't have the required spec for it nor does the amp send 4K signal through it)
So, I hear you asking, how is it?
Well, I am impressed! I didn't expect it to be great with upscaling (however 1080 to 4K is simple quadrupling of the pixels) but I was hoping for as good as a cheap 1080p set which I think it more than accomplishes! For the money the screen is fabulous, the colours vibrant and motion seems so be handled with some ease, yes it could be loads better but not for the price, for the price it is brilliant!
So there it is, my review for what it is worth. I thought about asking on here before buying but after some googling I noticed that all the advice was coming from people who didn't have the set and instantly proclaiming it cack! So I decided to plough on regardless in the best British way and see for myself if it was a good idea and I think it was!!
