Hi guys,

I am about to order a Sonos 5.1 setup, Playbar, sub and 2 Play 1's for the living room and unsure if I need the Sonos Boost?

I know I don't 'need' it but if its going to improve things I will get it but happy to save the £80 as well.

Opinions?

I have Plusnet WiFi which runs at about 12/15mbps on average and is pretty stable.

Thanks in advance.

The Boost is really to help the wifi signal reach round the house and to all Sonos boxes.

I have several of the older Bridges, which tend to do the same thing, but the initial question is where the Sonos is compared to your wifi router. Whilst you can do everything on the house wifi, I always prefer to at least use the sonos created network for sonos (leaving the house wifi a little clearer) or wired.

I accept this isnt possible in uncabled properties, but it is always the ideal.

Thanks Vex.

The router is in the living room so will be a few metres away from all the Sonos speakers.

I do plan on having Sonos in the kitchen and bedrooms as well, though. Albeit at a later date, maybe it would be more suited when I get them as opposed to the 5.1 setup for the living room?

Probably not.

How are you going to control the music? This might have an impact on the need for a Boost or Bridge.

Can someone confirm if I need to connect a Boost (using a 5.1 setup) to my router via ethernet or can it all be wireless now?

No, you can use the house wifi, but I would wire the router to the Play:bar if you can.

If you can't then personally I would use a bridge to provide the link to SonosNet
