I have no real need for a projector but I recently saw a link posted to this one:

http://www.gearbest.com/projector/pp_109950.html

For £85 it seems a bargain, plug a Chromecast or Fire TV in and away you go.

Has anyone bought one or something similar? Obviously it's not going to be amazing but is it worth a punt?

The resolution isn't very good.

There are better ones for not much more on aliexpress, just remember that the warranty is basically useless.

Projector Central did a roundup...

http://www.projectorcentral.com/cheap_projectors.h...

it sounds like they all use the same, very dim, light engine and are too dull to actually be useable.

I bought one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Epson-EB-S03-Lumens-Portab...

for work for £280 as a temporary solution to a boken TV (long story) and I'm amazed at how good it is (speaking as a home theatre fan with a full HD projector). If all you're looking to do is throw a big screen up once in a while for film night with your mates this will produce a perfectly watchable image on a big screen, we have 84inch at work and it's fine even with some ambiant light. Ideally you'd want something with a 16:9 resolution, like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Optoma-Entertainment-Porta...

for £340.
