Hi

So I have bitten the bullet an purchased a Sony Projector, pull down screen 2.7m.

I am looking for advice on installing this in a cupboard, which is perfectly alligned to the centre of the room, opposite where the screen is going.

my questions...

The distance from the cupboard front wall to screen is 4m, height of room is approx 2.5m width of room is 5.5m

Whats the best way of calculating where in the cupboard wall I cut the hole? Height & centre point? I have a door in the cupboard I could open and allign the height of the projected image.

I am looking to maximise the screen size usage in 16:9 format and the 2.7m screen will be close to the maximum I beleive at this distance (according to the site calculator I used)

Cheers
Jon

I believe that projector has optical frame shift, so it doesn't need to be right in front of the screen, horizontally or vertically. Even if it doesn't have those you can correct the image digitally. You probably want the PJ near the ceiling, otherwise when you sit in front of it you'll block some of the image(!)

I am a bit surprised that 2.7 meters diagonal is the largest throw that PJ can do at 4 m, if I understand the specs correctly it should be able to throw a 3.3 m image at that distance, and you can be as close as 3.25m for an image 2.7m across.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, the 2.7m screen was the biggest pull down I could find, so happy with that for the price. I would like to put the projected in the cupboard and was looking to find out if there are projector boxes, that would sit in the stud work with a glass screen at the front and the projector behind.

Just saw this Jon. I'll have to give you a shout when I've got time if you haven't sorted it already.

However, probably stating the obvious, but make sure you've got plenty of ventilation as a projector won't like being in a cupboard.

Small update, I had found the projector cheaper online and the shop have agreed to refund the difference. I have now changed the screen order to a motorised 3m screen. I have also orders some cube style shelves to use as the front of the opening in the wall. Should keep it tidy and allow plenty of ventilation.

Trying to get it installed before Xmas day if it arrives on time. Thanks for the updates on the height etc, I will add some pictures once I have the kit ready to go.

Cheers Jon

Thanks for the advice, especially around the heat, I have changed my mind and relocated the projector to a ceiling position and used a different wall for the 136" screen. I have also spoken to a local AV shop who have ordered 2 more wall fixings for the screen as I will sleep better at night with 4 fixings rather than 2.

Relocated my existing speakers and it's all up and running, very very happy with the out of box settings. I am sure they can be improved with some tweaking smile

Now also looking at another sub for the back of the room to give the sound even more feel. I will wait for the Xmas sales.

Glad you got sorted out, just in time for Christmas too. If you're going for a second sub then the ideal is to use another one the same as you have; I have one front left and one rear right and it gives a nice even response, both identical of course. The other option is to have one 'nearfield' ie right near the seat, for a more tactile response, though you might need to roll off the higher end so it doesn't become too easy to locate the sound.

Have a good one mate. smile

I've got the HW40.

I've also had a bright yellow TVR, but that's another forum.

As a reward for your good taste you'll hopefully find that the optical shift on the HW40 very good. You don't actually need to centre the PJ at all to square up the picture accurately.

I went from a white to a grey screen now - this thing kicks out a lot of light!
