TV via Cat 5 & Cat 8?
Discussion
So I'm buying a new house and the guy tells me that a couple of years back he had Cat 5 and Cat 8 into every room behind the tvs.
There's also some kind of 'hub' in a cupboard.
What can I do with this? I'm used to just using wifi for the laptops, nothing hardwired at all.
Is there some way I can send my sky box via these cables? What else can I do with them?
Thanks in advance!

Cat 8? I suspect it will be Cat 6. You can send HDMI over CATx using 'extenders', loads available, look at HD-baseT versions, however these are more expensive. Get versions that allow IR remote control, so you can control your Skybox.. You'll need an HDMI splitter to spit the single output of your Skybox.

lol I'm so out of touch with this. I'm still using magic eyes with coax!
So what you're saying is that the same thing as these magic eyes are available with hdmi via these cat cables now?
You can still use the coax and magic eyes for control and just run the HDMI over Cat5. Depends on the set-up, send more detail once you've moved in. So what you're saying is that the same thing as these magic eyes are available with hdmi via these cat cables now?
There is and was a company that sells a Cat-x solution as Cat8 which I always argue against because there isnt a cable ratified as cat8.
The proprietary cable can be a mix of cat5/6 cable on three of the pairs and the fourth pair is a cat7 type cable with is rated to 860mhz which is the full band tv range. So with the right connectors and baluns you can get freeview down it. From memory, at short distances you can even do satellite.
I can give you more info if you can find d the manufacturer of the hub or a photo.

If you have suitable TVs then you'll need no new cabling and receive HD sky wherever you have a magic eye.
