Hi

I have a Technics CD player that holds 3 CD's at a time. It keeps jumping and I am wondering if I can get it serviced. Have tried a cleaning CD but this has not worked. It's part of a HI FI system bought in the 90's.
I would prefer to get it repaired in London/ Norwich
Can anyone suggest where to go/whether it is worth it please?

Thanks alot

I can't say for sure, and we don't know what's wrong with it. You might have written the laser off with the cd cleaner.

Anyway. Try to find an independent guy that can at least have a look. If it's the laser transport, and your particular one is available off the shelf, it might be a cheap and easy fix. If the laser transport is no longer available, it's a write off.

Is the CD player built into the system or can it be replaced on its own?

Hi Tony
Thanks very much for your reply. The whole hi fi system is a "Technics mini changer system SC- CH655".The CD player can be removed and the remaining units used. Im not sure were to go to get it looked at.....
Thanks for your thoughts

No doubt this needs a new laser. You can find out what it is, order it from ebay or similar and fit it yourself if you can solder or take it to a man who can. I saved a not insignificant sum by doing this last time I needed to.

There's no guarantee that a 20 year old mech will be in stock. Always worth a try obviously, but be prepared for disappointment.

Thanks very much for everyone's advice. I would like to pursue looking for a new laser part but I haven't a clue on how to specify the part

You can clean the lens assy with a cotton bud. Pull the bud tip so you have a slight excess of cotton. Dip it slightly in distilled water and gently wipe the lens assy. All it takes is a very small piece of dust and the lens wont focus. It may be dust or it may have lost power. Laser assy used to be cheap £15 with the occasional £60 jobbie. Most popular where sony's KSS lasers. Cheap as chips and easy to change.
