Surround Sound Speaker Placement
Discussion
I've just bought a 5.1 home theatre and I'm wondering where to place the rear speakers. The picture below gives you an idea of the room layout. Some setup diagrams I've seen show the rear speakers situated just to the side of the main seating position and others mounted on the back wall.
Due to the placing of the other sofa and the patio doors, we have to have the main sofa butted up against the wall.
Plan A is to situate the rear speakers on stands behind the main sofa, as shown in green.
Plan B is to put them on the back wall (shown in Red)
Any suggestions as to the best option?

Pick your favourite type of movie and film and try them in different locations.
I watch a load of older 1970's stuff and doesn't matter much to me, but every ear is different.
I assume you'll be sitting opposite the TV, sometimes the surround can be a bit loud as mine is when directly behind, of course you can adjust everything to suit.
I would try and see which you prefer.
