Hi everyone,

I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to stuff like this but in short; bought a new TV which has no scart connection. Want to connect our Freeview+ box to it which is only scart connection. So I bought a scart to HDMI adapter from Maplins (£50!!). Connected it up as follows; aerial from wall into Freeview+ box > scart from Freeview+ box to adapter > HDMI lead from adapter to HDMI port in TV. Selected relevant source on TV and it just shows 'no signal'. Tried on all 3 HDMI ports the same.

Am I missing something or doing something wrong? I have phoned Maplins and the chap I spoke to was pretty useless tbh. I' m going to return it and speak to someone in person but I want to make sure I'm not doing anything glaringly obvious beforehand! I've tried to google it etc but not found anything relevant. Not sure if it's a faulty adapter or me?!?!

Seems pretty trivial but it's really annoying not being able to record stuff.

Any advice/suggestions much appreciated.

Massive assumption that it's this box ... http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-scart-to-hdmi-ada...

A reviewer says "The bit which took me a day to figure out is that when you TV stubbornly says "No Signal", you need to try the 3 little buttons next to the coaxial slot, and presto, signal."

Take it back and put the £50 towards a new Freeview+ box - sorry if that doesn't sound particularly constructive, but SCARTs pretty dreadful by modern TV standards, and I'd be surprised if you can even get a TV signal through such an old device, given that Freeview SD was switched off years ago!

Yep that's the one. I have had a fiddle with those buttons but to no avail. I'll have another go...

And my brother in law suggested getting a new box too. However, on having a quick look, decent ones are more than I want to spend and there's stuff stored on our current one which we want to watch...

Cheers for the replies :-)

£50 is a bit steep too, but that's Maplin for you. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161946513986

Yeah I thought so too but was a bit of a hurried purchase! I guess they can fleece people with no clue, like me! Think I'll be taking it back regardless of whether it works or not!

Appreciate your help!

What TV? Does it have an AV input? Yellow video, red and white audio? You can use that with a SCART adaptor.

Right, all sorted. I pushed a few of the buttons on the adapter and after a few goes it came up!

So I've bought the identical adapter on ebay for £20 and I'm going to return this one to Maplins and get my £50 back!

Cheers PH!

If you decide to buy a new DVR, you could look for a BT Humax 4000T on eBay/Amazon. I recently bought a 1TB version for £135, and a £95 500GB one for my sister (NB: the Now TV app is movies only).
