I'd be grateful for some advice on one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BPOURCG/ref...

When I plugged it in yesterday, nothing, no power light. I changed the fuse (tried a couple) and tried a different socket, but still nothing.

It doesn't get used that much and remains unplugged most of the time rather than on stand-by (there is no on/off switch).

Is it a) likely repairable or bin? Or b) is the issue that it has been unplugged for some time?

Any advice welcome, thanks.

Nick

Internal or external (brick) power supply ?

If external - check the ratings on it and see if you can source a replacement.

And, to try to answer your question, there's a belief that electrical and electronic system are more prone to failure at switch on or switch off due to things like "thermal shock" effects.

Thanks for your prompt response. I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean. It just plugs into the socket. There's no transformer.

OK - that's an internal power supply so there's no need to worry about finding a replacement external unit.

If changing the fuse hasn't worked, and a new lead doesn't work, and something else works from the same socket, it's probably time to accept that it's gone to the great silicon foundry in the sky.

I wouldn't be too quick to just bin it. I would certainly take the back off to check for any internal fuse/s and check for correct voltage output after the power supply. It could be a very cheap fix.

Found this for you.............

Obviously yours will be 240v input.

Thanks for the replies, useful to know. It's a kids' room TV for a holiday let so I may well just get a cheapie.

It may well not have been plugged in for a long time. I suppose that doesn't make any difference does it?

None whatsoever - I would also double check that there isn't an off/on switch tucked away somewhere wink

Edited to say page 15 here? ..............

Thanks, yes, I saw that, pressed it a few times. I'll have another go when I'm down there next. Cheers.

Although a different model, my daughter has a Toshiba TV with a power button on the side and that's always a bit random getting it to come on if the power has been disconnected. Various lengths and sequences of button pushing do nothing, then try it a few mins later and it'll work straight off.

Hers turns itself on during the night now and again - a noted Toshiba issue, apparently.

I suppose if it's a holiday let you don't want to leave stuff on standby for long periods but over the years I've come back from holiday having unplugged everything and found various electronic items wouldn't restart - would have been cheaper to have left them on.

You could be right. It used to be that stand-by used 60% of the electricity used when in use. I don't know if that's still the case.
