Harbeth Speakers
Discussion
Walked past a place in Falkirk earlier , i could only see the backs of the speakers , they were beautifully finished. A name ive never heard before Harbeth.
I thought i bet there more than 300 quid. 1500.00 Pounds! Thats a fair bit ! Looked lovely though.
I am so out of touch with hi fi nowadays.

'Proper' speakers............look like they're from the ark but use well developed cabinets, quality driver materials; designer Alan Shaw's crossover work is up with the best too. Harbeth are well respected, particularly by the press in the states.
Sound quality is the priority rather than superficial 'modern' appearance. The recording industry uses them for monitoring; few domestic hi-fi speaker companies get a look in on that market.

Been around for donkey's years, not really hi-fi specialists as they mainly do proper monitors, but some do get out to domestic installations. They are at the cheaper end of monitors to be fair, even the 40.2s are only about £8k, but by god they're honest and good. Like most monitors, no one gives a crap what they look like, they just need to sound good.
It still remains that some of the world's best monitor manufacturers are British, something to be very proud of. PMC, ATC and Harbeth all designed and built here.

Aren't they some sort of continuation of the Rogers principles? Especially the big ones (40.2). I think they use thin wall cabinet construction and pitch/bitumen mat dampers.
On a pair of open frame stands, they remind me of Isobariks in looks AND some qualities in the sound. You don't seem to get that "big" sound these days. Not since manufacturers started down the narrow-face type of enclosure.

Yep, picked up where Rogers left off. On a pair of open frame stands, they remind me of Isobariks in looks AND some qualities in the sound. You don't seem to get that "big" sound these days. Not since manufacturers started down the narrow-face type of enclosure.
Narrow face enclosures are driven by the hifi world, pro monitors are often anything but narrow.
