Headphone recommendations?

Looking to get some new headphones, my Sennheiser HD 25s have seen better days.
Want over the ear or on ear style, not interested in 'beats by Dre'
Mostly listen to Hip-Hop, various forms of EDM, funk, soul, indie folk.. bit of everything really..
budget is up to £50.00 area..
Gotta have good deep bass and crisp sound.

They arrived quickly and they are seem spot on. A few years ago, if you found a pair of Form 2s under £150, they were used and knackered or fake. The 2i is generally better and you can get them from discounters pretty cheaply - presumably why I see them around so much.
I preferred the looks of the old Form 2 without the massive Bang & Olufsen logos, but ah well.
My first set (2) I paid £65 from currys in Newcastle airport when I forgot my headphones when I was rushing to get to the terminal
The second pair (2i) was from Currys Heathrow T5 and I paid (I think) £85
All tax paid sales bought on internal flight ... fully boxed, brand new and sealed from pretty reputable dealers ... bargains are out there

Probably the case. I don't think I'd seen them anywhere other than Bang & Olufsen shops until a few years ago. I had my last pair for something like nine years so I didn't have any need to look for retailers/prices in the meantime

The new entry AKG closed-backs look to be very good for the money, take a look at the K92s at ~50 quid. There's some choice around here, some more good ones going up to £100. I can't recall many cans with it at this price range, but a removable cable is always worth having if you can get it.
I guess you will want closed back and not open, there are a few options at lower budget that are semi-open or open backed. Superlux HD668s are cheap and cheerful, but are supposed to be great for the money, hefty low-end, £33 on Amazon/
Might do better in the Hifi forum for this, though it may take longer to get some posts.

For out and out bass handling and hip hop, I'd recommend the Monster Inspiration range. Not the last word in quality or clarity but they do pack a low down wallop. I have the powered (2 or 3 aaa's) Inspiration model (closed back with detachable cable) which can be had for around your budget if you shop around. They are easily on a par with the Beats Studios I had before without such a conspicuously naff image! I only listen to old school hip hop mainly 90s stuff and for gravelly bass heavy stuff these are the best I've had (mainly Rakim, Pete Rock, Wu-Tang, P.E etc). There not too leaky either.

thanks for the input guys, I think I'm going to need to find a big store with all the brands I can listen to and compare.. going through Amazon though and these seem to tick most of the boxes -

Take a look at the AKG Y50s - they are £50 in black, the more bling colours are a bit more expensive.
I've got a pair and like them (also have a pair of HD25s, and think these compare favourably, the AKGs probably a bit more bassy).
Comfort wise, not best person to ask - I wear glasses and find that all on-ear headphones are really painful after about an hour's use, but these don't seem any more painful than others...

As for strong bass in lower priced headphones (not being a snob here, but <£50 is considered lower priced
), closed back headphones are generally more bass oriented than open back ones, wood and other organic materials generally give a better bass reproduction than metal and plastic.Monster and Sony are known for their bass-a-plenty offerings, the AKG Y50 mentioned are very good, I haven't heard them myself though.
Not sure if they can be found anymore, but Zagg ZR-LE should be around the right price, and sound very good, with a strong low end and natural high end.

Since you seem to be near to London, when I was looking for headphones, Harrods had a very wide range that you could listen to. I haven't been in there for a few years, but may be worth a call to see if they still do.Funnily enough I ended up buying them from there as the ones I ended up with were not available elsewhere for much below RRP and Harrods had an offer day with 10% off everything.

I'd recommend the SoundMAGIC E10's. Don't be fooled by the price, they're fantastic performing. I was recommended them by a professional audio reviewer he knows his onions. Want over the ear or on ear style, not interested in 'beats by Dre'

Used by professionals and in the majority of studios for a reason
Officially US models only, and as the exchange rate sucks right now (I bought my last 3 pairs when the rate was $2/£1) depending on where you get them, it may be pushing your budget slightly, but well worth it. They have a much more natural sound and are more comfortable to wear than the HD-25 (and the 25SP), which I never really got on with personally - particularly the bass on them which I did not like at all.

Having said that, I don't know that they would fit the OP's use if he wants something with a lot of bass - mine have excellent clarity and detail but they're tuned to be fairly flat across the frequency range for monitoring, the bass isn't boosted like most consumer headphones. Some people find them too light on bass and a bit harsh in the treble for casual listening, I like them but they certainly reveal any substandard mixing/production in the music (as they're designed to).

I just bought a pair of those for my son. He loves them, I find the extra bass a bit over powering as to my ears anyway it muddies the bass and if you're listening to EDM (as I often do) there's plenty there already.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-MDR-XB950AP-Premium-...
We went to the local Curries which had a wall of demo headphones and we tries loads in the £60-£120 range.
FWIW I preferred the Sennheiser Urbanites for sound - but I know they're on ear not over ear
