Headphones - £75ish budget
Discussion
I've got some of these, sound great and under budget. Bought because they were highly rated in most of the HiFi mags.

I just got a pair of Onkyo ES-FC300 and they're impressing me - build quality, comfort and sound quality all very nice. They advertise them as an on-ear but they're big enough to be an over-ear for me.
Would definitely recommend if they're within your budget, I paid a good bit less than that but it was a very good deal and I don't know how they're priced where you are.

At least two Sennheisers available for half that:

Try amazon.co.uk, Headphones, a £75 limit, and 4+ stars. You don't have to spend hundreds.

+1 Grado.
Unless you're anywhere in public using them or the office in which case the tutting and general scowling in your direction will become tiresome!
Especially if you are listening to straight up gangsta rap! +2 for the Grado, they really opened my eyes to open-backed headphones.Unless you're anywhere in public using them or the office in which case the tutting and general scowling in your direction will become tiresome!
Depends on what you want to use them for really. If you are using them out and about or in an office where you don't want sound bleeding out go for something closed backed. Amazon have Sennheiser HD280 on special offer reduced to £80 at the moment.
Also consider comfort. Go and try a few pairs on. I'm a bit of a Sennheiser fanboy, but Grado are decent and Klipsch are worth an outside look too.

BeyerDynamic DT250's - very comfortable for long periods, do have a bit of a flattering sound which maybe won't be an issue unless your missus is mixing audio.
However, slightly over budget. Thought they were in the £85 range but a quick price check seems to put them in excess of £100.
Whatever you decide, make sure you don't end up with some counterfeit goods! Check your seller carefully.

I had some AKG Y50 based on what hi fi reviews and found them decent, but i seem to be a bit ham fisted and have broken 2 pairs of on the ears now so not sure if it is build quality or me on the AKG's
I got the bluetooth version of these, thought the build quality to be very nice, sound quality not so much.InductionRoar said:

Try some on. Buy on comfort, not sound.
That strikes me as odd advice. The two aren't mutually exclusive and sound is surely the most important feature of headphones?

I think both are important but sound more so - uncomfortable and I wouldn't use them much, bad sound and I wouldn't use them at all.
But trying some of the options out (instead of relying on reviews and forum opinions) is still a good idea, as sound preference and comfort are both subjective things that will depend on the individual.
