PS4 Pro + 4k Ultra HD TV
Discussion
After a bit of advice/guidance if I may. Think this section is more relevant than the computers one as it is more about my TV (and a console rather than PC).\
A while ago I treated myself to a new Ultra HD TV - this one here http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-43UF680V. As far as 4k TVs go I guess it is pretty basic but it does me nicely. Today I've bought a PS4 Pro to replace my PS4 as I knew I'd end up getting one at some point and I found a good deal.
When looking at the video settings on the PS4 it suggests my TV has the correct (I think) resolution of 3840 x 2160 but "HDR on Your TV" is "not supported". I'm certain from both memory and the above link that my TV is full 4k/Ultra HD (same thing?) but just wondering why this is not supported? Is it something that means I'm not getting the fiull benefit of the Pro or is the resolution the main thing? Oh, and what is "HDR"?!
Thanks all.

Thanks all.
Tried swapping my HDMIs over a plugging the PS4 into HDMI 1 but didn't make a difference. I'll have to look into the settings on the TV to see if it supports HDR.
From the link it looks to me that this HDR thing was present on the older PS4 which makes me feel better in the sense that it isn't one of the "new" things about the Pro that I can't use. That's the way I'll look at it!

Yeah just LED rather than OLED.
Next bit of good news is the shop assured me all my games saves were in "the cloud". Well I'll be damned if I can find them and am fairly sure they are lost. Don't think I'll be revisiting Fallout 4 then...
One more thing - does anyone know how to deactivate a previous PS4 as your primary? Looking around apparently you can only do it on the system itself. That has been traded-in never to be seen again. Anyone know of a workaround?
Cheers.

HDR is now known as 'premium uhd' as of Jan 2017.
Plenty of 2017 LCD and OLED sets have hdr capability. Oled not getting great reviews for hdr vs top end Samsung lcds.
Only pre 2017 sets I'm aware of that can display hdr colour gamut are 2016 Samsung JS9000/9500 (though they don't meet latest brightness standards).
I paid c.1200 for a js9000 this time last year. Hdr content is spectacular. Similar in step up to Sd to hd.

Sorry to break this to you but HDR on the original PS4 is something they just added in a recent update4k and HDR have been a nice little earner for the TV companies, just like 'HD Ready' was a few years ago. I wonder how many people have been sold a 4K TV and it won't do what they want it to do.
A quick summary of what I have discovered:
No early 4K sets have HDR and some don't even have HDMI 2.0/HDCP2.2 ports which means you can only watch 4K content via the onboard apps.
HDR itself comes in three flavours:
1. HDR10 is actually quite common on the mid-high end 2016 TVs which have a 10 bit panel to support it.
2.Dolby Vision supposedly a step up and is extremely rare at the moment.
3. Lower end screens with an 8 bit panel do 'support' HDR, but it is not 'real' HDR apparently.
The PS4 Pro is very fussy about the HDMI cables that it works with, even though any cable designated as High Speed should do the job.
It is all a bit of a minefield, and as soon as they sort it out, they will be on to making a mess of 8K!

Interesting info. Wonder whether mine has the necessary HDMI ports... I did watch some Breaking Bad via Netflix on the TV when I bought it and the quality was incredible but thinking about it I am not sure if that was via the built-in app or via the PlayStation and therefore the HDMI cable?!A quick summary of what I have discovered:

I have some decent, gold (Sondstrom?)HDMI leads so think as far as they go I am sorted.

If all you have for reference is something like sky hd then 4K looks pretty good on Netflix or the new sky uhd Footy or films. But it's only about the same quality as a 1080p blue ray - due to amount of compression needed to stream it. I have some decent, gold (Sondstrom?)HDMI leads so think as far as they go I am sorted.
4K hdr dIscs are on another level all together. It's a similar step up as SD to HD.
Forget expensive hdmi cables, they are a waste of money. It's what data they are capable of transmitting that's important.
