just a quick man math check on the replacement, currently have a 12 year old 42" '720' Panasonic plasma is getting sadly a bit old...

Had a quick shufty around and looked in a store last night.

LCD are still crap.

Luckily LG have some tasty looking OLED's

55" is probably largest I can go, and LG NZ dont import many of those so the OLED55B6T is top of the list. No OLED55C6T (curved). Looks like these are newish out too ( last years 55EG960T doesnt look worth it)

Dont really care for 3d, want 4k, need component input, at least 2 hdmi (yeah.) digital audio out (optical on the LG) to the denon av amp is good too.

Has a good netflix client etc

its $7000 though! Anything else I should be looking at?

Importing from somewhere else??

Can be had for £1800 over here now, so around $3100.

I think its about $3500 AU too! Nz prices are pretty rough.

Not sure about importing something this big/expensive without local support...

May/June time I guess.

I would consider importing, or maybe go up to the 55E6, which has more picked panels etc.

Might be cheaper than the B6 locally.

Think I can wait to see what the 2017 ones are like, and pick an EOL 55B6 or the 55B7?

I've a decent sound setup ( Denon AV amp, Monitor Audio speakers) so dont really need the improved sound of the E range.

Is it true the panels are picked better? From all the reviews they seem to have the same PQ

They choose the most 'uniform' panels for the E and G series.
However, there are very few issues with the latest builds of any range.

So the LG OLED55B6V is £1960 on Amazon UK.. Plus about £350 to ship to NZ, plus 15% GST gets me to about$4800NZ

https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-OLED55B6V-Ultra-Smart-...

Uk version seems to have a DVB-S2 sat tuner we dont on our version too

Do these TVs have a worldwide warranty? If they don't, claiming on a UK/EU warranty from NZ might be somewhat impractical. A $4800NZD/£2750 TV is definitely not something I'd want to buy without a decent, local warranty to give me peace of mind.

Sorry to hijack, but I too have a very old 42" panny plasma. The screen is now leaving whatever was on the picture before, so it's on its way out I think.

I've seen this deal this morning
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-65UH661V-Ultra-Smart-w...

A 65" tv for £1100? Is that a decent tv and is that good value?

I have seen this TV and I really liked it. The thing to say is that I believe this will use an IPS type panel, this has it's advantages and it's disadvantages, chief among which is even worse black levels than a VA-type panel like Samsung etc use. Personally I like IPS panels, and it'd be what I would get for a big 'n' cheap set but the pro reviewers pan them.

I don't like them at all, great for very bright rooms, and in bars etc. where viewing angle is important, however their inability to do black probably just makes the whole image look washed out and flat when you are in a normal living room in the evening.

Any recommendations for a similar price?

I really have no idea on this stuff....there's a Hisense TV for less than £1k, guess that's going to be worse still ?

True, but it's not like VA panels can either and anyone who cares about black levesl would have an OLED, wouldn't they ;-)

Being serious though, I think they have a nice, vibrant image with good colour saturation. My monitors at work/home use IPS panels and I just prefer them to VA.

Has it got to be a 65"?

If so has it got to be around a grand?

Reason I say that.....

55" Samsung KS7000 is around £1000, 60" is around £1300. 4k HDR

55" XD85 Sony. 5k HDR around a grand.

The fact you can pick up a 55" LG OLED 910 or 930 now for around a grand though, that would be my choice.
It may only be 1080p but it still looks better than all the above imho.

Doesn't have to be I guess, but I have a 6m blank wall with a 42" plasma plonked in the middle and whilst when I put it on there it looked big, 5 years on it looks ridiculous. I think a 55" wouldn't be a great deal different dimension wise, even though the visible screen would be a big step up.

I'll take a look at your suggestions though thank you.
