Good morning,

Looking for a 55in 4K SUHD TV - happy for flat or curved. But the Mrs quite likes the look of the curved one, even though its going to have a Yamaha Sound bar sat infront...

Anyway, I have come down to 2 different options which are very similarly priced

2015 - UE55JS9000 (curved). As far as I can see is a 10 bit SUHD panel with "Nano Crystal" tech which reviews very well... I prefer the stand on this one...

2016 - UE55KS7500 (curved) or UE55KS7000 (flat). Again 10 bit panel but with this years "Quantum dot" tech...

TV is going to be used for PS4 Pro, Sky and the typical Netflix etc... Im no picture geek and will likely use it out of the box with no advanced config...

Opinions please...

Thanks.

Both have pluses and minuses.

General feedback from people who have had both (JS9/KS9) is the JS9 has a better day to day picture. JS only does 600/700 nits for HDR though. Updates for JS9 aps is a bit hit and miss - eg; Netflix ap not updated for HDR.

KS7 does full 1,000 nit on HDR. But I've heard some criticism of back lighting (more so than usual criticism of LCD's) - KS series is lit top/bottom vs side lit, which is more typical. Means you lose the cinema black function of JS (100% black top/bottom of screen when watching movies).

I've had a JS9000 for a year and I'm really happy with it... I would have bought an OLED, but couldn't get a 55" in my room. JS was best set available in 48". Picture is bright, colourful and clean. Handles blacks well 99% of the time - just not as good as OLED when watching dark movies in a dark room. HDR content (via Samsung 4k/HDR BR player) is spectacular, as are 1080p BR's. Also great for sky HD/4K. Bit rubbish on SD, but does anyone watch SD channels nowadays?

Have a look at owners comments on AVS forums.

ps; no need to be a picture geek... just search the model number on AVS forums and you'll find much better setting than out of the box for pretty much any set.
