Replacing Samsung 55D8000
Discussion
My D8000 is still dying (I posted last month) so it will be replaced. Its a lovely TV but old tech, so isn't 4k, the Smart stuff is pretty old on there, and I also found out the SPDIF can't pass through 5.1. Allegedly it can output it, but seemingly not from the built in Netflix app and definitely not pass-through from my PS4.
The pass-through is quite important, as we're moving house - somewhere without lots of speaker cable run, and as I'm only there 12-18 months whilst we build somewhere else I'm not inclined to dig through walls and get something installed, so my 6.1 Kef Eggs and BK Monolith will go into storage and I'm just going to use a SkyQ / PS4 and Sonos Playbar / Sub / 2x Play:1 as there are power sockets right where the rears need to go. Not the perfect solution but I can repurpose all the Sonos kit when we move again so its fine.
Anyway, I was looking at the Samsung UE60KU6000 as a potential replacement. At £844 it seems fair value, as its 4K, HDR and Netflix 4K capable. It isn't Ultra HD Premium but I don't know what extra that would give me that I would be that bothered about...
This TV DOES have SPDIF but I can't find anywhere yet to confirm it will pass through 5.1 (or output it from the built in apps like Netflix) and this is crucial as I don't want to spend £1000+ on Sonos kit only to find I can't do 5.1 with it!
So firstly any opinions on this TV? Its only about 10cm wider and a bit taller than my existing TV, and is quite a bit cheaper than the 65" model (which is another 10cm wider again). I also found a UE65KU6020 but I can't see what the difference is to the 6000 models (!)
Secondly, does anyone know if it will definitely pass through (and output from its own Netflix app) DD 5.1?
Thirdly, any other TV I should consider around this price point?
