Evening guys,

I bought a BD-S473 Bluray player about 2 years ago, and due to work and refurbing the house I've havnt had time to use it, it's probably only had 10 films watched throught it. We went away for a weekend a few months ago and unplugged all the av stuff before we left. When we came back and plugged it all back in the bluray played repeated 'Hello' 'Bye' in a loop for about 20 mins until it seemed to get bored and stay off. It's done it a few times since and when I went to watch 'Wolf of wall street' the other night it just came up as 'unknown disk'. I tried a CD and it played, but it won't play DVDs or BDs. Because we've been doing work in the house I did think if it was a bit dusty or something so tried a cheap lens cleaning disk but it didn't improve things. It was a bit of a long shot and to be honest coupled with the 'Hello, Bye' thing it does seem there is something else wrong. I tried doing an update but it said none found, but whether or not that part is working I can't be sure.

I guess if it really isn't well, the next question is whether or not it can be repaired and where to send it. Anyone know any Yamaha repair centres?

The next question if that fails is does anyone recommend any of the other Yamaha Bluray players, I'd like to keep Yamaha if I can just because it looks good below my Yamaha receiver.

Cheers

Gareth

That model appears to be over 4 years old, and wasn't a high end machine, so I doubt it's a viable repair. You'd be better spending the money on a new player. Whether Yamaha should still be considered is up to you.

Edit: the BD-S477 might be the new version of yours Oh, I'd never use a laser cleaning disc. Ever.
