Little help, we're likely to be moving into our new flat this weekend following a full refurbishment. However now is the time to try and sort out our broadband and TV connections.

We've always had Sky TV and are familiar with the box and packages offered etc. however, we have no communal sky dish and are not permitted to attach one of our own...

Is it still possible to get sky? (Broadband & TV)

Only other service I can see is Virgin, having payed with a friends box its awful, not at all intuitive....also not familiar with the packages, needing:

We generally watch stuff on channels between sky channels 101-260 and 520-600 so sky 1, fox, discovery, food etc. not too fussed about sports/movies.

What is the equivalent for Virgin if we have to use them instead?

Thanks in advance smile

No,

Sky only comes over Satellite signals its the way its boxes work.

You can get most of the channels you want via virgin. ( not sure about Sky Atlantic though)
Also have a look at now TV boxes which deliver some sky content via the internet.

Sadly if a dish is not allowed then you cannot get conventional sky.

What is the reason a dish is not allowed? Is it possible to get one out of sight on the roof.?

Thanks for that - guess I've not got much choice

May have a chance of getting it on the roof but guess that depends on the management co although think there is a bit in my lease which stops me from doing any thing like that - can't see any other dishes or wires for the whole block so if possible presume that it'd have been done already?

See if you can sweet talk the management company (if you are a listed building then you have little chance)
A decent independent aerial company should be able to do a neat job.

If not if you are ground floor with a garden then a dish will work at low level if it can see south

Give Virgin another look. There's a new box available (TiVo V6) which is supposed to edge the SkyQ in a few areas.

Thanks - will give that box a look - may have to fight that battle in a year or 2 though, not even moved in year and have annoyed the neighbours!

We're middle floor and face north so probably the worst of all worlds!

Sky Atlantic isn't on Virgin. It is on NowTV. Can be cheap if you buy vouchers off eBay. The next 3 months of NowTV will cost me 4 quid - well worth £1.33 a month for Atlantic and the box sets & catch up.

Thanks for the help all, signed up with virgin this afternoon

£100 retail voucher was a kicker to doing it this was vs the £100 or so quidco might or might not track properly...

We initially went for the 100mb broadband fun bundle (to include discovery) but when walking out checked the box...for only £6 a month more we've got the full house package to include BT sports and movies, 200mb net and the newest box they offer...more than the £32 I was paying sky a few months back but not too bad...nets back to £47pm - just got to remember to give notice in time (and the GF to sign up next year!) before the price hike
