do i need sky?
Discussion
Hi,
so i currently have sky basic package, a non smart tv and bt broadband 3mbps broadband
I absolutely have to ditch BT as I hate them with every fibre of my body.
Considering new tv so wondering if a smart one will help me ditch sky.
We're luddites with streaming etc - i dont want to watch stuff from my laptop etc i want to just sit back with a remote and choose stuff off the tv.
we like sky atlantic, need kids programs, and watch a lot of films we currently order from sky store.
sooo options?
would like faster broadband but not essential - does need to be unlimited.
should i ditch BT and just go pure sky so tv and fibre through them?
or better options - will smart tv make a difference?
oh and dont have sky q but think i'm out of contract at mo if theres any cheap way of getting it.
Thanks!

If you get a Smart TV you can watch on demand via the BBC iPlayer, ITV, 4OD and Demand 5
All will be accessible via the TV remote, and just require a free app to be installed on the TV (via the built-in App Store on the TV)
You can then add other Apps and sign up to subscription services if you want more choice - Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.
The TV will need to connect to your internet either via a cable, or built in WiFi. I get around 3mbps on my broadband and it is OK for watching most TV programs without buffering issues in standard def. It won't usually stand HD streaming.

You can get Atlantic via NowTV if you want it.
I paid £18 for 6 months via ebay.
I'd be concerned about streaming in a 3mb line though, worth getting the trial to see if it works for you.
Another vote for NowTV, I have it and it's great for Atlantic, box sets and kids programs (although that's an additional charge now). Then it's Freeview and all the catch up apps for everything else.I paid £18 for 6 months via ebay.

I switched to Sky as like you I got pissed off with BT.
Sky give you free calls to mobiles if you buy one of their call packages.
I have the fastest fibre package, free calls to mobiles and their basic TV package all for £42/month.
BT was costing that just for phone and internet and then on top of that my phone bill was usually another £20-£40 depending on how much I used the phone!
I don't really watch TV that much but the sky box can pause and record programs which is quite handy.
