Hi All,

Another questions,

Does anyone have any ideas of a good sound-bar to fit under the TV which produces enough bass?

I believe some soundbars have built-in subwoofers?

Size is not an issue but budget would be around £300.

Q acoustics Media 4 is the generally recommended soundbar under £400, considering one of these myself. Can pick up for around £300 now.

Q Acoustics M4 is on budget, well reviewed and includes sub.

No link as on phone but sounded good in Richer Sounds.

I was looking at one of these but got the Cambridge Audio (with separate sub) only as I needed something smaller on the wall.

Cheers, Steve.

I can vouch for the Q Acoustics M4. Got one from richer sounds for 249 just after Christmas.

When I asked about the bass from the built in sub he played me various demo tunes and I was very impressed. I also ended up buying a separate Yamaha sub but it's not been used much due to the built in sub.

Was put off the Canton with some reliability issues.

I've just got the Sony HT XT100. Works well enough for me. Not overly bassy but a vast improvement over the speakers in my Samsung tv. Cost me £119

Sounds a bit snake oil/advertising crap/oxymoronic to me?

A sub is usually large and capable of moving air hence why they use 10" and larger speakers? And soundbars are not huge in height. Would it actually be playing proper sub bass, or only mid bass.

As low end adds so much to movies/games/tv, I would go with an external sub rather than compromise.

This. Love mine.

Worth pointing out it is a sound base rather than bar: so the TV sits on top of it.

I am considering the same, but am stuck on which model. The 90.3 is huge and the DM 55 has considerable breakdown problems it seems so I am hesitating between the 75 and the 100. Which one did you buy, and why? And does the lack of HDMI ports cause problems at all?

I bought the 75 & I have A 55" Sony w series TV

I basically just wanted to de clutter , my old set up meant everything had to go through the receiver then hdmi to sky, blu ray & Tv with speakers & wires everywhere.
We had also lost the remote for the receiver which I know I could of replaced at a fraction of the cost of the Canton
I must admit I find the single optical cable that comes in the box far easier to use than having cables dusting away behind the TV.

I'm so pleased with it tbh as it really looks the bks & when you crank it up to the mid 80's to 90's on the volume control that's when the Canton really show's off.

you can add a sub if you feel the need but I haven't felt the need to do so yet

Best thing is that the wife loves the look & the simplicity of it & she can have her music pumping out via her phone.

All in all i'm pretty chuffed with it TBH & I know it's not the best of the best but for the money I think the Canton takes some beating.

I have a Sony HT-XT3 and it's great. Loads more connectivity that most of its competitors and fantastic sound quality for the size.

Only gripes are lack of input specific sound settings and very occasional lip sync issues (resolved by switch to a different input a back).

Out of left field I have cheaply acquired a used LG SH7 for now, but even if I don't find it very good it was throwaway money so no big deal. I must admit though that I am most tempted by the Canton DM90.3 irrespective of the cost. Trouble is, I can't seem to find a decent review of it anywhere nor reliability reports bearing in mind the numerous complaints about the DM 55 model. I would like HDMI connection but it is the only one in the Canton range. Atmos would be useless for the shape of the room having a chimney breast to the right of the speakers and a staircase above so it is in a niche.

I was about to buy a Canton dm75 but the shop put me off, advising they had a lot of warranty returns, and steered me to the cheaper Pioneer SBX-B70. Since I was taking it to work in Africa reliability was high priority. Sound is decent, connections are decent and, so far, it just works with no fuss.
