Hi All,

Firstly thanks to everyone for helping regarding the Cat6 cables to hdmi converters, over distance.

I have another couple of questions:

Do HDMI cables transmit HD, 2k,4k up to 10m ?

I get conflicting information from google and wanted to get your input.

How do I know I have a good quality HDMI cable, say if I purchase from ebay?

I think (I cannot remember of the top of my head).

For 4K the max is 3 or 5 meters.

However, nothing is impossible, depends how much money you want to throw at it.

If you want something completly furure proof, then fibre is the way to go.

Otherwise

http://hdanywhere.co.uk/hdmi-cables/pixelgen-18gbp...

I use this, and it works. I get 4K over 11 meters. So that is Sky Q at 2160p 10 bit. UHD BR 2160p24 4:4:4 12 bit.

1080p over 10m shouldn't be a problem.

Just to add, this is from my experiences, I'm sure someone with more knowledge will have moer advice for you.

I hear good things about Amazon Basics cables, I have

Does 1080p and 2160p 8 bit with no issues. Anything beyond that is no hope.

I've run 2 x 15m HDMI cables from a splitter in the living room into an HD socket in the wall of 2 of the bedrooms. They then each have 2m cables from the socket into the back of the TVs in the bedrooms, so 18m in total from the Sky box.

Also a 10m cable to the kitchen from the same splitter.

HD on all 3 with zero problems.

Technically there is no published limit for cables in terms of distance, it is all about the signal degredation over distance and this can vary greatly with different cable qualities. It used to be quoted as being around 7m for 1080p (and I was guilty of that to) but it has only ever been about the signal losses and the 'eye' pattern that was received at the other end.

This is a great article to read, it just a little updating for 2.0a/b and as of Jan 2017 & CES HDMI 2.1 Specifications.

Bluejeanscable's are also one of the better ones to choose if you want to push more than a few meters.

To add, I have two 15m HDMI's from the same supplier in my walls to my 4k projector and passing through a AVR Amp, one works fine at 4k 8Bit and the other doesnt at all.

(And of course for those that know me, yes, I backed it up with a load of CAT6 for safety!)

How does the cat 6 work? I know it can be used but what equipment do you need for it?

I'm trying to avoid spending the best part of £300. Have ordered a 10 metre run off amazon for under £30. Will let you know if it gets me full 4k @ 60fps with 4:4:4.!

Even iit works, add some cat6 as a back up. Just because it works now, doesn't mean it will work when you've buried in the wall or 2 years down the line.

Totally totally totally this, bury 3 or 4. Can't stress this enough, everything can be sent down cat6 and it's so cheap you'd be mad not to!

I've got it working delivering full 4k and hdr over 10 metres off my oppo 203 and 4k amazon box..

Can't get the ps4 pro to deliver 4k though. And there have been a few times when the input black out but comes back if I turn off on back on the av receiver everything goes through.

I'm pretty sure the glitches is the cable but £25 to £300. I can run it for a few months and see how I get on. Ultra hd tv. Some German magazine brand.

Is that 4:4:4 10 bit from the Oppo? The PS4 is probably trying to pass 2160p50, that needs a lot off bandwidth.

I pass through from an Arcam avr850 to Sky Q, Oppo 203, PS4 Pro and the Amazon 4K TV that I use to watch Netflix, Prime and IPlayer. It's actually the Amazon box I've been most impressed with. The Oppo picture is stunning by the way. I watched the Magnificent Seven on it over the weekend. All in 4K HDR. The Sony projector is a huge step up from the old Domino d80 I've had for 10 years.

I'll take a picture of the resolution that is going to the projector and post it for you. Though if I'm honest, I'm now struggling to tell the difference and a lot of the latest developments with the limitations of my eyes are just numbers. Still need to get the projector professionally calibrated though.
