Which 55" - Sony XD93 or LG B6 ?

I've been agonising over this for a few months, and with 2016 stock starting to dry up I know I need to make a decision ASAP to make sure I can take advantage of the low prices (£1249 for the Sony, £1749 for the LG) before the 2017 models come along at full RRP.
I like natural colours and deep blacks. The panel will be replacing my 10yr old 46" 1080p Sony which has been faultless, but is really starting to show its age.
Part of me says the Sony will more than suffice suffice and the colours will eb sharper, but I keep being drawn back to the LG for the deep blacks. Having said that I know it's only as good as the source you are running, so will I see any benefit in the OLED if my main source material is streamed and/or Sky=HD/Q?

I have the Sony XD94 and the picture is absolutely stunning. Sky Q looks beautiful. Eight months later it still amazes my. I don't think the XD93 will be far off.
Saying that, the only reason I did not buy an OLED was the £20k price tag for a 75".
Ideally, you want to go demo both TVs.

The oled, for me, wins hands down. The blacks are just sublime. For me that picture with those black trounced the opposition at the time of looking, it was that or the Samsung.
However, for others it is different so be happy with what you want before you pay.
I use Netflix or aerial hd and Netflix and a player (Bluray and BT) for 4k.
And with HDR, things just get even better, where available of course.

No issues with any of that except the HDR from Netflix part - something like Sense8 in 4K SDR can look stunning then OA in 4K HDR looks absolutely dull and washed out - hoping for better consistency in the near future.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

This with a EF950 btw although I've read of similar grumbles from B and C owners.

If you keep your TV that long either go OLED or wait for the Sony OLED.Sony colour and processing/motion are my favourites, however, you can't compare the dynamic range of having pure black, so I went OLED after my W905 Sony. I very nearly went XD93 but always knew I would want OLED and would end up swapping again.
I actually bought a 1080p OLED for a grand and will get the Sony OLED when it arrives.
If you don't want to spend OLED money, a great alternative is the Samsung KS7000. It's is a fantastic TV for the money - I got it for £850 from Currys in a sale. Seems to be more expensive now, but even so it's still great value. It also has the advantage of being very pretty for a telly - so sits perfectly in the living room

It's pretty pedantic but all it's doing is upscaling the 1080i signal it receives, they aren't broadcasting 1080p. Not 100% sure on downloads but probably the same.4k looks alright though.

That's weird. Installers set up the system for 1080P input to the TV and research on t'internet suggests SkyQ is sending 1080P signals to the TV set. Might just be an improved signal from dish and the new hardware since I had the dish repositioned when they added the updated LNB.
The Sky Q box is upscaling the 1080i broadcast it receives to 1080p before outputting it to your TV. Just like if you've got a silver box and a 4K TV the TV will always receive 4K regardless of what channel you're on because the Silver box is upscaling it.Digitalize said:

Just to finish off this thread, yesterday I took a punt and managed to pick up the last (new, boxed & unopened) 55XD93 from the Currys' in my local area for what I think is a bargain £1120. I bartered down from the final 'sale' £1300, which they funded using an internal sale code. Their 10 day price promise means they should also refund any further price drops if it goes below what I paid.
I've still yet to tweak the out of the box picture settings perfectly, but after watching Sneaky Pete and The Grand Tour in 4K HDR, I'm very impressed. Sure the blacks don't quite match OLED but the excellent contrast and perfect natural colours are delivered in spades by the XD93's engines. The upscaling is also very very good indeed! Sky Sports yesterday through my HD+ box the 1080i football looked brilliant.
With the 2017 XE93 priced at £2400, the OLED A1 at £3k, the LG B6 at £1600-£1700, and the Lg B7/C7 to be very north of £2k, I think the XD93 at pretty much a grand is all in all a bit of a bargain for what it delivers.

I've had the Sony XD93 55 inch for a few months now and I also went with the intention of buying an LG OLED. But having spent ages looking at one then the other on display in Currys I decided to save a bit of money and bought the Sony. All in all I like the set and really like the 4K rugby output by BT's You View plus the box has the higher resolution streaming 4K movies and series from Netflix and Amazon produces very pleasing results.
