I remember reading (late 2016) that the BBC were set to launch a new UHD channel and show wimbledon this year, this has obviously passed and nothing has been said ?

Next year is world cup in Russia which I believe BBC and ITV will be showing, has anyone heard if this will be shown in UHD ? and how will you be able to receive it ?

Your TV won't have a uhd tuner in it, HD yes UHD no.
So the only other way to see any feeds if they are out there would be via satellite ( sky is 2.3k not 4K so you would need a uhd satellite box)or possibly iplayer itv player if they go UHD.

Depends on what device you have, as with the BBC trials last year:

I think some people are confusing what they mean when they refer to a 'tuner'.

I set up a Fire TV tonight. Upon opening iPlayer I was asked if I'd like to participate in a 4k trial.

Alas the Fire TV is in my bedroom and connected to a 720p set so I had to decline.

Sky Q is 3840x2160 (according to Sky) so is certainly UHD: https://corporate.sky.com/documents/about-sky/comm... (PDF file).

However, given the current absence of a terrestrial broadcast system above HD I'd expect UHD material to be deliverted via Internet-based streaming or downloads for quite a while yet.
