I've been offered one of these for free, is it worth it in 2017 or is it going to be too much effort to get it working with HDMI inputs & outputs?

I haven't even moved into a house where I could put this yet and I definitely don't have enough speakers but got to start somewhere right?

I have the previous model to that one (mine is the 750SE) and it's fantastic, works perfectly although being 10 years old the remote needs hard pressing.

The trouble with buying an old model like that is that it's so limited in it's functionality now - unless it was really cheap i.e £50. Even then you could buy a secondhand amp with more functions for a little bit more. i for instance sold a newer model (RXV465 I think) for £100 albeit it doesn't sound as good as my older 750SE.

I have a RXV2067 (albeit much higher in the range) and that is the hub of all my gear i.e all sources (satellite, PS3, NOWTV and PC) go in via HDMI and the amp in turn is connected to my TV and Projector. I can control it using an app on my tablet/mobile and play music stored on my tablet or mobile etc. I can also have a movie or whatever on in the lounge but my wife can have music on in the garden.

But you might not want all of this and at least the 757 allows two sets of main speakers so you could have a basic multi room system.

I have an old Denon 3802 and got around the HDMI switching issue by using one of these-

It does not always auto switch, however you can use the learning function on the Yamahas remote to copy the output from the rather flimsy remote supplied.

This only has four inputs, enough for me, but I think there are others with eight etc.

It's not £100 though it's free, better than nothing at all.
