At the design stage of a new AV set up in my lounge.

I plan on a 5.1 system with 2 ATMOS speakers in the ceiling.

I want to get the first fix right with an element of future proofing.

Would appreciate if anyone could take a look at the diagram to see if I've missed anything.

TV will be wall mounted. Sockets below hidden by a rack.

Thanks in advance smile

Could throw an optical cable down from tv to amp. If i were honest i would sink a duct in the wall to future proof for cables to TV.

Yeah I was planning on a duct between a couple of brushed faceplates.

What would I need the optical for?

Optical will cover the audio from TV if using freeveiw or freest unless of course your AV amp has ARC (audio return channel)

Got you. AVR-X2400H - has ARC.

Don't rely on ARC though, it can and has been iffy for a while.

If you are ducting, add the optical.

Cheers. Guess it's a no brainer to put one in just in case.

I would wire for 4 atmos - everything I have read suggests experience with 4 is better than 2 even if sofa is against wall. Vex, having probably heard a few setups, would you agree?

Also unimportant, but I think convention is to separate the atmos rather than group, so not 7.1 but 5.1.2 in that setup.

Makes sense. White in-ceilings are pretty inconspicuous. I think I'll run the cable just incase. Can't really justify the extra cost of two additional speakers plus the step up to a 9.1 receiver at the moment but it makes for an easy potential upgrade in the future.

Would the correct position for 2 Atmos speakers necessarily be the same as for 4?
My gut feeling is 2 speakers might be positioned more centrally whereas 4 would be further back and further forward. I've not yet looked into it in detail as my lounge is only a vague suggestion of a plan at the moment so I'm interested in this too.

Good point. Looks like 5.1.2 has the ATMOS fronts (just in front of the listening position).

5.1.4 adds the rears (just behind the listening position).

From experience I would drop a pair of the sides and add a pair of atmos.

The sound experience will be far superiour.

If you are local come and have a listen to my 5.2.2
