I recently bought an LG 58UH635 TV.
The Sony DVD surround sound system I have was bought quite a while ago and only has a scart socket in the back so I'd imagine will not work with the TV, although I use it mostly for live radio and for CD's. As the carpet in the living room has been ripped out to lay a new floor, now is the ideal time to change/install another one as I can hide the wires under the underlay/laminate going down.

I was tempted to just buy another out of the box and off the shelf home cinema system for a few hundred £'s. I mainly use the TV for the normal cr4p programmes, netflix and a kodi streaming box - I can't remember the last time I watched a dvd of some sort. I also like listening to live radio and cd's. The TV sound is very tinny at best ....

Question is what is a good speaker set up - new or used, along with a decent AV receiver that comes in at about £500'ish? Someone local is selling a 5.1 Monitor Audio Vector for £275 although I'd imagine I could get that price down as it's quite old.

The only future proofing I can think of is to maybe add a dvd/blueray player at some stage and to watch F1 from my laptop to the TV. The TV has wireless connection and a few other apps so the AVR doesn't need to be too clever.

Lastly the floors going down on Thursday so I need to get a hurry on.

I think you may struggle to get a decent amp and speakers for that money.

Have you considered a sonos playbar?
Good sound and you can add extra speakers as you go.
Works off the optical feed of the Tv,so whatever is on the screen will come out of the soundbar.

They retail at £649, a bit above budget but theres an AV bloke on here (Vex i think) who may be able to shave a bit (sonos margins are tight !) off for you.

There is also the Denon Heos system, their soundbar comes in at about £480 with a wireless sub,and works in a similar fashion as sonos.

Amp: 199 https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/av-rec...

Speaker package: 299 https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/speake...

Have heard neither but I'd wager they both will sound far better than an all in one surround solution.

Thanks smile

Those links look quite good. I did look at the Sonos but the AVR plus speakers will probably suit me better providing I get the speaker wires down tomorrow. I've messaged the guy with those used speakers but will probably pop to RS and no doubt blow my budget as well ...

It seems a lot has changed since I bought my last one as well.

This looks like a good amp and speaker package:

Atmos ready for if you want it in the future.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I ended up with a Yamaha RXV483 and a Canton 5.1 system. Very easy to set up and sounds really good with a lot of settings to get it to do what I want. Now for the hard part of setting up the speakers as my TV is in the corner.
