Denon DM-40/41
Discussion
I'm having a bit of a reconfiguration and want a neat small solution for music. These Denons get good reviews and look very compact. Main use would be sonos through a connect attached to it, and I have some old KEF speakers to attach. I would use the CD, Bluetooth (if I get the 41) and DAB occasionally. Any experiences on here of them? Quoted power output seems relatively low but don't know of that is a problem. Lounge is only 4x5 meters.
I'm sure I could get a used amp and cd player that would trump it from a audiophile perspective, but that would take up too much space

Got my daughter a Denon Ceol a while back - similar specs to the 40/41 you've mentioned and similar looking power output (65W X 2 but at 60hm at 1 kHz - crazy japs fiddling the specs - probably a real 30W/ch which is what the 40/41 is spec'd at).
It's in regularly use streaming flac from a NAS and it sounds good - easily enough volume to fill a medium sized bedroom (and annoy parents trying to watch TV downstairs...) with tiny little Wharfdale diamonds.
Don't expect cavernous bass or nightclub levels with drum and bass and you should be fine.
Although it does have a dedicated sub out so easy enough to add a discrete subwoofer at a later date?
Which Kefs are they?
The amp section is rated at 6-16 Ohms - some of the larger old Kefs are rated at 4ohms so might be an issue with higher volumes.

I've got a DM40 that I connected to a cheapo set of Sony Speakers off an old all in one system. Very pleased with it although it hardly gets used as it's in the dining room and we never are! .. must get round to moving it. Didn't realise they did a Bluetooth version.. I added a twenty quid Logitech Bluetooth adaptor to mine which does the job.
I have a Dm38 which doesn't get used anymore, was ok whilst I used it but them I bought a Naim and whilst the latter is much more expensive and has more power, so not fair to compare, the difference was night and day and so decide d it wouldn't even do as a second system.
I would say look away from generalist japan and instead get something from a more music focused brand.

It depends how loud you like your music, but the power specs are not very good...
30 W + 30 W (6 Ω/ohms, 1 kHz, T.H.D 10 %)
I had to download the manual to get this, as the specs published on the website are not exactly clear...
This translates to probably 15.. 20W RMS at best and your speakers ate 8 ohm even less.
The older Denon stuff used to be really good, but this doesn't look to be in the same league.
